Mobile Detection and Redirection

Although we didn’t intend for it to rhyme, mobile detection and redirection is now a tool you can use with the WordPress Whitelabel Framework them. The purpose is to make it quick and easy to redirect visitors to your mobile website when they visit from there mobile cell phones. Currently we are not detecting for tablets because its a bad practice to lump tablets into the “mobile” category. We will be building a seperate tablet redirection option so that everyone can choose where tablets go. If you choose to send tablets to the mobile site, its now up to you!

Version 1.0.1: Theme Attachements Template Added

We recently upgraded the theme to version 1.0.1 and with that update came some important changes. While the code cleanup and CSS adjustments were important, we would like to place the focus onto a new feature in the Whitelabel WordPress theme, Attachments and Images Templates.

Inspired by some of the code from the WordPress core teams TwentyEleven theme, we build template files that allow you to easily navigate between images in a gallery, back “up” the navigation hierarchy to the page where the gallery was published, and the coolest feature which shows you the original file upload dimesions on hover:

WP.org Reviewers want to Handicap the theme

After trying very diligently to get the theme into the WordPress repository to give you all easy access to the theme, we determined today that its not going to happen. The review process goes through a brutal set of checklist items of things that, ehem “shouldn’t be a part of the theme”.

I honestly found the process to be very politcal. By political I mean, “it depends on how the reviewer interpreted the rules setup by the WordPress.org foundation”. They then go onto tell us that the toolbar that shows up on the screen at the top of the screen is “not in the presentation layer” so we are not allowed to hide the admin-bar… yikes!

Here is a list of features they won’t allow:

css must not use element prefixes, instead they asked us to use !important (yikes!)
optional wp-admin bar removal not allowed within the code (again, yikes!)
you MUST use jQuery version that comes with WordPress core (really…)
not allowed to give users the option to load scripts from global CDN sources
… this was only the first review and the theme doesn’t even have all features built in yet, we wonder how many more theme features we would build in that they would just shoot down and not allow in the theme.

For this reason, instead of cutting out all the features we know you want in your Whitelabel theme, we are going to find another way to distribute the theme.

Finally Passed WordPress.org Repo Checks

After hours and hours of work, we finally passed all the theme check tests and we will now be considered. Hopefully someday soon we will spread and update Whitelabel Framework theme easily as it will be fast and easy to install from the free themes in the WordPress.org repository inside your WordPress install.

Just launched

We just launched the new theme framework. Its supposed to be the “parent theme to end them all”. Best of all its absolutely free. Feel free to download it and give it a try. Developers are sure to love it!
